Planning a Memorable Baby Shower
Whether you are planning a baby shower for your daughter, your sister, your best friend, or a co-worker you want to make it a memorable one. Aspects to consider are the timing, location, theme, food and drinks, favors, and gift.
Timing
Baby showers should be planned around the 7-8 month mark. You want to be sure to give enough time before the due date so that the future parents can pick up any extra baby supplies that were not gifted to them at the shower. But, you also do not want to plan too early and jinx the whole thing.
As for the time and day, showers are typically held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Remember that pregnancy wears you out. You do not want to have an 8 month pregnant woman out late at night or up too early in the morning. The afternoon gives her plenty of time to socialize.
Location
Choose a location that is convenient for the soon to be mommy. This may be a family or friends home or a banquet hall or restaurant. Baby showers are meant to be relaxing and laid back. Where ever you choose to have it should be warm and cozy with plenty of comfortable seating.
Theme
If you want to go with a baby shower theme, there are a ton of great ideas online. Baby Luaus, Bedtime Stories, Pink Paradise, Blues Baby, Going Green, and Spa Day are just a few. A theme creates a talking point as well as ideas for the food, drinks, games, and favors.
Food and Drinks
If your shower falls in the early afternoon, appetizers and lunch foods like mini sandwiches or tomato pie work great. If it is a late afternoon shower, I would lean towards dinner foods like chicken or roast beef. Remember to consider the mommy to be tastes and her pregnancy restrictions. You want to be sure there is plenty choices for her and the guests to enjoy
Offering non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are a way to please all. Obviously, the guest of honor cannot have alcohol so it is a good idea to not overdue the liquor selection. You do not want her to end up the only sober one at the party! Offering wine or champagne, along with coffee, tea, juice, and soda would be plenty.
Favors
It is important to thank the guests for coming with a party favor. This does not have to be expensive; it is the thought that counts. If you go with a theme, choose a favor to compliment it. Scented candles, body lotions, unique soaps, coffee mugs, and wine glasses are a few creative options. Additional ideas can be found by searching the many baby shower favor sites online.
Gift
One of the important thing to remember as a hostess is to also provide a creative gift. Sometimes you get so caught up in the planning and organization of the shower that you forget to spend time shopping for a present. A quick and easy idea that I love is a baby gift basket. These encompass a number of necessary products and baby supplies that the mom can use.
